Interesting fact...these birds do "not" like being scratched and rubbed under their wings (or anywhere) as one might do with a pet parrot!
Even though I've blogged about this before, I wanted to add a few of my latest photos of the raptors which are on duty at the city dump four to five days a week. They seem to do an amazing job at keeping the other "scavenger" birds away from the area. The two falcons and two hawks are highly trained. We got into an interesting discussion about the little leather hoods that are kept over their heads as they're transported to and from the area every day. As I mentioned before, only one of them at a time is released into the sky, flies around the area which is sufficient to scare the other scavenger birds (pigeons, blackbirds, etc.) away. They are not on duty on the weekends...the other birds seem to know it, and flock in for the free food scraps. Interesting fact...these birds do "not" like being scratched and rubbed under their wings (or anywhere) as one might do with a pet parrot! By the way, I've been enjoying the live "raptor cam" every day...a nest of ospreys in Montana. Check it out. The chicks will soon be fledging.
