This was my piece that went to Steve:
I did a collaborative trade this summer with an artist from Iowa, Steve Hosch. Steve has been creating some beautiful work from dried gourds, but now seems to be moving more into the world of assemblage "box" art. We had agreed at the beginning of the summer that we would each create a piece, and then before the summer was up, we'd make the big trade. As you can see, I ended up with this beautiful piece with all its compartments. We have talked about doing another collaboration next summer (more than just a simple trade) where we'd each start a piece, let the other person finish it, and then we'd end up with our original piece. You can find more of Steve's work HERE.

I recently bought this amazing piece from Brian White, an assemblage artist who also shows at Cannibals Gallery. You can find more of his work here.
I've been working on a series of small, simple shrines for our new show at Cannibals Gallery. I've incorporated some of my vintage photos, along with some odd objects, papers, labels and other details to give some kind of "identity" to each person represented in the shrine. As I have no idea who these people are in the photos, I've actually been giving them names, and creating some kind of a visual "life" story for each of them. I'm hoping that one day, decades in the future, someone might find a photo of me at some flea market, and give me a new life in their shrine. The joy of boxes...lots of 'em ! As a mixed media artist, I'm always having to organize (and re-organize) my collections of stuff that I use. I do have an assortment of odd plastic tubs, boxes, crates, etc., that help to some degree, but today I hit the motherlode! Now THESE are storage boxes...and all of them were free for the taking. They are all about the right size for much of my stuff...papers, plastics, metals, wood pieces, glass, etc. The best thing about these boxes is that they are stackable (if packed properly). For those of you who might live in the Portland (OR) area, check out the "free box" section at the New Seasons grocery stores. They are practically begging you to take them (big sign..."Free Boxes")! During the summer season, they seem to have an endless supply of these kinds of fruit boxes, all extremely well made with heavy cardboard, and the little flaps to help with stacking. Most of them are very clean...no rotting fruit residue, etc. I walked off with about twenty-five of them this afternoon, but may even grab a few more before the berry season is completely over. Yes...I can feel jealousy in the air!
