Gleaning at the City Dump #78

While gleaning with one of the other artists, Chandra, we came upon this massive pile of asbestos in one of the other areas of the bay.  It looked like a snowstorm had just blown in.  Needless to say, we stayed away from it.

I found a box filled with these small plastic propellers...I'm not sure how I'm going to use them yet.

I also discovered another pile of this pricey "gourmet" bread that was tossed by some local bakery.  Again, this surprises me that it didn't end up being given away to one of our local food pantries.

I, too, hate seeing good food thrown away when so many people would appreciate getting it. All 3 of my sons worked for Kroger Grocery and every night the Deli would throw out whole cooked chicken, bread, other meat, etc. They were not allowed to give it to food kitchens or shelters for fear that the employees would intentionally make more than needed in order to help these organizations or to take it home themselves. I finally understood and didn't hold it against the establishment. Of course, when they sent my middle son out with all that good food, he ate what he wanted! At least somebody got something out of it. Did they never wonder why it took him so long to just go outside to the trash?? lol

The issue that I have with this bread being thrown away at the dump is that it's high quality "nutritious" food. There is so much of it that it would easily feed many families for several days.
