Gleaning at the City Dump #53

If you're new to my "gleaning at the dump" blog, check out #1 for some information on what this is all about.  Five of us, all  local artists, received an art grant to glean for "art materials" from the Metro Transfer Station for six months.

Photography
I carry my camera with me every time I work at the Transfer Station (two or three days a week...about three hours a day)  trying to document the entire experience of digging through our city's trash.  I'm allowed to take all the still photos that I want, but no videos of any kind for safety reasons.  My photos for today...a few more of those miscellaneous kinds of gleanings that may (or may not) have value for me in my own work.

Dollhouse
Picture
I watched as this new (almost new) dollhouse was being thrown from someone's truck.  I had to wonder what was going on here...did some child outgrow this perfectly good toy?  Maybe it was too long ago that these  kinds of things actually became "keepsakes" in someone's attic as a memory and celebration of a child's rich, imaginary play.  And even more, I also found a little plastic bag tucked inside one of the rooms with all the pieces of furniture as well as the entire family of dolls.

I kept this little bag of "furnishings," but the dollhouse was eventually swept away by the monster tractor, which clears the off-loading area periodically throughout the day so that more trash can be dumped.   As with so many things that I find, I was left wondering why this was so freely and readily tossed away.   I may make a little "shrine" with these pieces.

It would be hard to pass by those furnishings and figures. Perfect stuff for stop motion animation.

No problem together with getting camera just about everywhere providing you never promote you are holding photo items. Placing you got it equipment within a brand-new photographic camera carrier is a dead item. Outstanding method of getting robbed. I place my cameras inside a sturdy book bag which has a soft towel draped all around all of them just in case it becomes jarred. Simply no, it isn't really an image bookbag. :)
