Gleaning at the City Dump #103

I have pretty much completed all my "requirements" for this glean project.  I will be taking thirty-six pieces to the show at Disjecta Gallery.  I've just completed "cataloging" everything ...some of my work piled here on my sofa, ready to be wrapped in bubble wrap, etc.  I will still go out to the Transfer Station to glean two or three more times, and then call it quits.
In the meantime, I've got several more photos to post.

Someone dropped off a beautiful, old leather sofa.  I turned it over, and sliced some of that nice aged leather from the back.

I also found two OLD leather pouches.  These things look like they might have been used back in the "Pony Express" days.  I suspect that they have some historical significance, but not really sure what it might be.

I think that these pouches are also quite old.  They are MRE's...military meals..."meals ready to eat."   The pouches are made of a rubberized material.  They look old...feel old...and I'd really like  to open one of  them up to see what's inside, but I probably won't.   One of them is "pork with rice in BBQ sauce," and the other is "ham slices."  They are not dated, at least as far as I can tell, but the printing is pretty worn off on both of them.   I kept these, but I'm not sure how I'd ever use these in one of my pieces.  They are one of those interesting treasures from the city dump.

I think it'll seem a little strange to me, too, when this whole project comes to a screeching conclusion. Using weebly to do my blogging, I'm able to check my stats...it appears that I have about 200 to 250 followers who check in each day for the latest news on trash.
