I like to post a few photos of my banana trees every now and then. My front yard has the look of a tropical paradise even in the winter...these "hardy bananas" hold up well with our somewhat mild Oregon winters. If we do get a winter storm, which for us, means a day or two of snow, ice, and freezing rain, these trees will freeze and kind of fall down on themselves (the stalks are very wet and pithy). I then have to clean away all the dead material in the early spring and the new babies immediately pop out of the ground and I'm back in business. If we have a more mild winter (no freezing) then the trees continue to survive quite nicely, often producing baby bananas the following summer. The baby bananas never really mature, but they're kind of fun to look at...you can see them here in these photos. These photos were just taken today...the day after Christmas, 2012.
